Climate Alarmism, A Religious Tenant of Totalitarian Leftists

For people on the left, left-wing issues are not political issues; they are religious issues. Consider global warming. To leftists it is an existential issue. The reason they want to criminally charge those don't accept man is causing catastrophic climate change is those who oppose their beliefs are heretics. The atheistic left is even more devout in their condemnation of heretical views. Any science or research that doesn't support their religious view of man being bad and earth being good must not be allowed. The failure of all the "scientific" models in temperature predictions is not a repudiation of their beliefs. The failure of virtually every prediction they have made concerning climate over the past 50 years is irrelevant, just as is the failure of all of the predictions of Armageddon made by religious zealots doesn’t diminish the faith of believers. They have faith that man is causing the destruction of the earth and therefore man’s actions should be controlled and limited by the enlightened, and no amount of facts will sway their faith.

Man-caused climate change is questioned because there is indisputable scientific evidence this isn’t the Earth’s first rodeo when it comes to cyclical cooling and warming. The Earth experienced periods of glaciation followed by melting long before Leonardo DiCaprio’s excessive use of private jets and the construction of Al Gore’s energy devouring Nashville dream home. The statistical reality is man's contribution to climate change is so smaller than the margin of error in the analysis we can do. But that doesn't fit into the religious beliefs of the left.

A primary tenant of leftists is that humans are a bad evil force that is harming mother nature. Katie Herzog at Grist.com clearly and plainly stated this religious tenant of leftism, writing on January 16, 2015, “If this planet is to survive the scourge that is humanity, we all have to stop reproducing. Yes, all of us. In that spirit, I propose we … sterilize every human male on his 10th birthday.” Granted most leftists don’t go to this absurd extreme, but then most Christians didn’t follow Jim Jones and drink the Kool-Aid either.

Climate Alarmism is a tenant of leftist faith and the left is zealous about it to the point of extremism, like Islamist they will use violence and seek to criminalize criticism of their faith. Like Islamists they seek to dehumanize all who don’t share their belief, so that they can feel no guilt to murdering, attacking, condemning, and taking away the rights of non-believers. Whom they feel don’t have the same rights because they are less than human. The call to punish “climate change deniers” is the lefts religious zealotry to gain control of our lives.

The United Nations (via UNEP), is pushing international judges to criminalize any climate change belief contrary to their own. Professor Richard Parncutt has called for the execution of prominent “GW deniers.” Climate Progress Editor Joe Romm called for deniers to be strangled in their beds. James Hansen, who has headed NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has likewise called for trials of global warming deniers. There is a very long list, going back decades, of leftists wanting to silence scientists and other heretics who dare question their beliefs.

The hue and cry to control us all, was once the imminent ice age, they it was called global warming, but because the climate didn’t freeze as predicted, then didn’t warm as predicted, and storms didn’t increase as predicted, etc. etc. etc., they changed their refrain from global warming to climate change. The climate change agenda is a desperate effort to gain greater control over our lives. As political commentator Henry Louis Mencken explained “the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” Leftists in their religious zeal have want the power to control the lives of others whom they feel should live as they dictate and not be given the liberty to examine the evidence and live and do what they think will best provide happiness.

Leftists religiously oppose the foundations of the USA and reject the idea that government was instituted by the mere people to protect their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They believe leftists by virtue of their superior intellect and compassion, should be able to dictate how the masses should live. Hence they seek to kill and outlaw and silence heretics that would dare question their beliefs. They are no better than Islamic terrorists, who kill those who question or criticize their beliefs.

The scientific consensus on global warming simply doesn’t exist. NASA confirms Antarctic ice growing not shrinking. If global warming were a fact, and the science supported it, the Antarctic ice would not be growing and the papers and scientific research would confirm the facts.

The published papers on Antarctic ice are conflicting and not in agreement. Jay Zwally, a NASA glaciologist and lead author of the NASA paper released Friday confirms there is not scientific consensus noting that their findings compared to others are not in agreement, saying, “Our main disagreement is for East Antarctica and the interior of West Antarctica – there, we see an ice gain that exceeds the losses in the other areas.”

The so-called scientific consensus concerning global warming simply does not exist.

Obama Promoted to IPCC Papal Astronomer

President Obama, has replaced Al Gore is the modern day papal astronomer declaring the dictates of the Intergovernmental Pentecostal Church of Climatology’s Pope. The Intergovernmental Pentecostal Church of Climatology is more commonly known as the IPCC. There next Synod is scheduled for the end of this year where the faithful will meet to determine how best to convert the unwashed masses and force them to ignore the scientific method and accept their dictates as true. Al Gore was removed from his office of IPCC Papal Astronomer when the Inconvenient Truth of his prediction that the North West Passage would be ice free failed to manifest.

The leaders of Intergovernmental Pentecostal Church of Climatology (IPCC) demand that we mere peasants (including half of all meteorologists who don't support man made climate change theory), are not qualified to understand the subtle nuances of climate science. Those educated elite ordained by the IPCC are not to be questioned, ever! Just as common man of the pre-reformation Church weren't qualified to read the Bible. Just as the Church then dictated that the peasants could not understand the mysterious motions of the heavens then, and were commanded to accept the Church's declaration that the Science is Settled, the Sun and Heavens Revolve around the Earth. Today the IPCC demands that mere people accept their dictates on faith.

Today B.H. Obama is the modern day papal astronomer declaring the dictates of the IPCC pope; crying the evil of man using energy to better his life. The progressive faithful decry those who don't pay homage to the mantra of the day; a mantra used to control the masses who must not be allowed to question the ruling elite. Like the reformation of the church lead to the Enlightenment, and libertarian thought and a rejection of the totalitarianism of the church and feudal government; a reformation in the UN's IPCC (Intergovernmental Pentecostal Church of Climatology) will lead to embracing rational thought and rejection of the tyranny of central control by the UN or any other body.

A consensus of scientists used to believe the earth was flat, that the stars rotated around the earth, that bleeding sick people would heal them and a litany of falsehoods. A consensus of scientists saying man is causing climate change doesn't make it so, especially when some elitist snobs say there is a consensus and the science is settled when there is no consensus and the science isn't settled.

The Intergovernmental Pentecostal Church of Climatology (IPCC) has declared rational verifiable truth heresy. Call me a heretic, the man caused global climate change models fail the test of reality, and the scientific method. Current politics concerning climate is not scientific, it is a tool used by elitists to attempt to reestablish control of the masses. The ruling elitist snobs are using “climate change” as an excuse for control, they don't care about the environment. To trust the IPCC’s official astronomer, President Obama, you cannot do it based on sound rational science, instead you must have faith to accept the dictates of the IPCC. Steven Goddard’s US blog Real Science provides this example shows how shamelessly the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has manipulated the graph of US surface temperature records, which has been one of the world’s most influential climate records.

The question is: Why most rational people no longer believe in the theory of man caused global warming?

The Answer is simple: Of the global warming alarmists claims 97.4% have proven to be wrong.

That’s right the Journal Nature Climate Change looked at the claims and so called “settled science” and the conclusion is that those using “climate change” to as a rationale for increased government tyranny, like what light bulb you’re allowed to manufacture, sell, and purchase, is based on lies.

John Christy, professor at the University of Alabama Huntsville noted: “I looked at 73 climate models going back to 1979 and every single one predicted more warming than happened in the real world.”.

Rational people are rejecting the entire Anthropogenic Global Warming theory for one basic reason, it is demonstrably false. It's clear the science deniers are those who insist on taking action and screaming man is destroying the climate.

Skeptics of global warming are not “deniers”. It's the guys who sail their ship into an ice-locked portion of the arctic while looking for signs that the polar icecaps are melting, that are "deniers".

Do you trust Monsanto sponsored research that says GMO's are good?

Do you trust Dow Chemical sponsored research that says Chemical XYZ is safe?

Do you trust the video gaming industry research that says video games don't affect behavior?

Then why do you trust Red Light Camera Research sponsored by the people who that collect red light ticket fees saying red light camera's and the tickets they issue make you safer?

Regardless of the subject, any state sponsored "scientific" research should automatically be considered suspect if the results include:

the need for more tax money, to do more research

the need for more state power to control something,

limiting the choices individuals are allowed to make in favor of state control of those choices.

Our government was created with severe restrictions because our forefathers didn't even trust themselves if given power. Before you trust the government with your well being, ask yourself how well that worked out for Native Americans.

No longer do you hear much about "Climate Change" in the news. You certainly haven't heard about "Global Warming" lately. It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that we've had a snowy spring. The reality is the facts and science doesn't promote the theory of AGW, that's Anthropogenic Global Warming, or manmade global warming. The models the global warming scare-mongers used to promote one world government and elitist control over everything in the name of saving the earth from manmade global warming have PROVEN to be wrong. Real scientists are abandoning the political theory of AGW faster than working people are leaving Detroit.

What the elitists who clearly have a political agenda, not a scientific agenda, want is for the masses to accept the “fact” that man is ruining everything and we must all live how they dictate or the world will come to an end. When real science get’s in the way they resort to a Fahrenheit 451 solution.


Associate professor at the Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at San Jose State University, Craig Clements, is holding the book while the chair of the department, Alison Bridger, sets it on fire. Obviously the idea of having to deal with applying the scientific method takes a back seat to the message they want to confer. Two public university climate scientists though it was a good idea to post a picture of themselves getting ready to burn a book filled with what they consider to be apostasy. This was/is a sick joke that confirms their fear of scientific debate.

Despite the rhetoric (not dialectic) from Obama and his minions and environmentalist groups about the urgency of global warming, real climate scientists are clearly recognizing the objective truth that there in a distinct lack of evidence to support claims of catastrophic global warming induced by man. Even former NASA scientist and environmental activist James Hansen has been forced to recognize the fact that the earth has not been warming for over a decade.

CO2 is now over 400ppm as a component of our atmosphere, yet the temperature has not risen, the fact is there is a distinct objective and observable divergence of the real world observations from the multi-decadal climate predictions. The MSM cannot support the official manmade global warming narrative, while reporting zero net increase in average global temperature and the abject failure of the models to meet their predictions. Looking at monthly temperature anomalies from the University of East Anglia it is clear that there is no significant trend in any direction going back to the fall of 1996. That means there is nearly two decades without no global warming trend. The earth is not flowing the scaremongers predictions, and it looks like current studies claiming current temperatures are the ‘hottest ever’ are facing a full scientific retraction.

Book burning and Fahrenheit 451 type attempts to control the message in the age of the internet are a failure. The elitists who want to use the climate to further control the masses cannot and do not control all the news and what ideas people are exposed. The objective truth is that when people apply the scientific method to AGW models, those models fail. If you are true to science and the scientific method those climate models which spell doom and gloom if we don’t do something to stop global warming must be discarded. When a theory which makes a prediction fails that theory is proven wrong, then the theory is discarded. Politics not science is the only thing keeping the idea AGW is a valid theory. The objective scientific truth is that the theory that considers manmade CO2 as a cause of global warming has been falsified. Only science haters who put the message ahead of the objective truth say otherwise.

Why Is Statist Lust For Power Righteous But Business Greed For Money Evil?

Democrats, Socialists, Progressives, Leftists, basically Statists of all types are irrational beings. The Obama mantra and strategy of capitalist big business being evil and government being good doesn’t pass any rational application of logic or thinking. No rational person can deny that the evils of the 20th Century, arguably the bloodiest in history, were caused by big governments and not businesses. Around 30 million citizens of the USSR died in the Gulag Archipelago. Considering that there were no private businesses in the USSR nobody can argue that businesses were the cause of that evil. The 75million Chinese people deliberately starved to death were not starved by the actions of Archer Daniels Midland but by the Chinese government. What business killed five million Ukrainians? Why business murdered 25% of the entire Cambodian population? It wasn’t Fokker, Mercedes Benz, or other German company that instituted the Holocaust, it was the Nazi State.

Conoco Phillips, British Petroleum, Marathon, Shell, Exxon, have small security forces but they have no ability to arrest you, they can’t tax you, they can’t confiscate your bank account, they can’t jail you, they can’t send a drone to kill you. Corporations don’t have police powers. Nobody from Coca-Cola is going to arrest you, take you from your home, interrogate you, and hold you. Today it is the government not any company has declared that they have the right to detain you without trial for as long as they want by merely claiming that you support terrorism with no evidence.

You are free to grow your own food, purchase it at Wall-Mart, Kroger, Fred’s, Winn-Dixie, or the corner produce stand. No business is using force or threat of force to make you purchase their product or service. It is only the government that uses force and the threat of force to compel you purchasing their service whether you want it, use it, or need it.

Yes it can be argued that government does good, and no anarchy is not better than government. But like parts of government the vast majority of businesses, private citizens, churches, and other voluntary associations do good. There is no private enterprise of any type that has done the vast amount of monstrous evil that governments have. Our forefathers understood that power corrupts so instituted a form of government that was limited, putting in harsh restrictions on the government not the people. From Matchless to the Hudson car company to Pan-Am to a zillion forgotten dot com’s those businesses that failed to protect and provide for their customers no longer exist. Businesses only prosper and do well by providing for the needs of their customers (unless government interferes with subsidies, mandates, licensing schemes, etc. to protected some businesses over others or protect businesses from bad business decisions).



Yes business is greedy for money; that is after all why they exist, to generate profit for the owner(s). As the above video by Walter Williams notes, it is in the best interests of business to protect and help its customers because they must compete for their business. Government has no such interest, and its driving force is its own propagation. It’s ability to use force to further its goals makes government far more dangerous. Tthe greed for power is far more frightening and dangerous to the people than mere greed for money. Statists throughout the last century were not greedy for money; they knew that with power the need for money was irrelevant. Consider Obama, his actual wage as president is not relevant, few if any have more of their needs provided with no personal costs than he and his family. He is set for life. None of the 20th Centuries infamous mass murderers, Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao showed preoccupation with monetary greed. Their lust for power was legendary. This is why statists, whether they call themselves, progressives, leftists, socialists, democrats or republicans are far scarier than the libertarian or even conservative aspects of the political spectrum. Statists of all stripes lust for power.

How can one rationally look at the horrors inflicted upon people by their own governments over the last century and claim that businesses and capitalism are the cause of peoples ills, especially when they then ask the people to give the government more power, and control more of everybody’s lives. Only the insane could accept this reasoning.

Economist Dr. Walter Williams notes that greed not government was a driving force in eliminating racial discrimination.

Think about greed and racial discrimination. In 1947, when the Brooklyn Dodgers hired Jackie Robinson, why did racial discrimination by major league teams begin to drop like a hot potato? It wasn't feelings of guilt by white owners, affirmative action or anti-discrimination laws. It turned out that there was a huge pool of black baseball talent in the Negro leagues. It became too costly for teams to allow the Dodgers to gain a monopoly on this talent. Black players won the National League's Most Valuable Player award for seven consecutive seasons. Had other teams not stepped in to hire black players, allowing the Dodgers to hire them, it might have given the Dodgers a virtual monopoly on world championships.

Dr. Williams is right “greed is good.”

Environmental Extremist Calls for More Tyranny

In an editorial in the May 10, 2012, NY Times titled, "Game Over for the Climate", Director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies Jim Hansen makes the same prediction he made 13 years ago, and is now calling for international draconian government restriction on both sovereign government and all individual choices in energy commerce. Eminent catastrophic events have been the scare tactic of statists who moved from the failed socialist and communist movements into the environmental movement. The problem is that Hansen's claims are not based on factual scientific evidence and scientific methodologies; his predictions and theories have proven to be wrong.

Way back in 1999, Dr Hansen published an article titled "The Global Warming Debate". This link uses the WaybackMachine, because it has been removed from the official NASA site.) This article made a good many predictions as was far more balanced than the his recent editorial in the NY Times.

Doing a good accurate comparison of the data presented in 1999 with the actual data collected since then we see that Dr. Hansen's predictions and theories have been falsified. Read "A Blast From The Past: James Hansen on 'The Global Warming Debate' from 13 years ago" for complete details. Actual temperatures do match one of the 3 models Dr. Hansen presented back in 1999; that model assumed zero CO2 production from the year 2000 onward. I'm pretty sure that since 2000 CO2 production has increased and not dropped to zero. Obviously he was wrong in 1999, and his editorial offers no evidence or scientific reference to support his past failed models which he is still using to claim that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change.

The political nature, and lack of supporting science to current Global Warming theory and models is so egregious that 50 of NASA's scientists have made a "request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. In 2005 Al Gore said about global warming induced hurricanes would increase in both number and severity. The truth is that in past 7 years since Hurricane Katrina, US hurricane frequency and energy have decreased radically, and are at historic record lows. Globally tropical cyclone accumulated energy (ACE) is at the lowest level since 1977. Again observed scientific data falsifies extreme environmentalists' theory.

Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of 'eco-refugees,' threatening political chaos. They actually first predicted this 1989, but I couldn't find the original article, the 2005 reference is close enough. Where are these refugees? Could the UN have been wrong? Since the observed facts contradict global warming theory why do UN and other government "science" organizations refuse to reject what is a clearly falsified theory.

Since it is clear the science on manmade global warming is wrong, the scientific predictions concerning global warming have observationally proven to be wrong, if the scientific method were applied then the theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming on purely scientific grounds has been falsified, hence should be rejected. Because the science does not support his ideas, Hansen's call to stop Canada from extracting oil and call to stop future exploration of oil and other fossil fuels is an editorial, not a scientific paper.

If the scientific method were applied to global warming theory and models, since the observed environmental conditions do not match the theory or models then both the theory and models must be rejected or significantly modified. Rather than reject or modify either the theory or models, the action has been to lie about and change the data to fit the models. Climategate and Climategate-II provide ample evidence that the scientific method applied to climate science is not the goal of environmentalists.

The goal of environmentalists is not scientific, it is political. Specifically the goal is the concentration of power in ruling elite to control of the masses of people. With the failure of socialism on economic and political grounds, "climate change" is the excuse they are using to justify enhanced statism.

Private property and private property rights are the bane of statists and environmentalists. Note virtually all their actions call for the infringement on how individuals own and use private property. So called "sustainability" goals, are to increase population density, reduce number of property owners, and curtail how individuals can use property, giving control of property into the hands of government, specifically unelected bureaucrats. You want evidence go and google what the BLM is doing to Tombstone Arizona.

Stupid facts keep getting in the way of Global Warming Alarmists. Global Warming, now called climate change because for the past dozen years there hasn't been any global warming, is being used as an excuse to concentrate power in the hands of ruling elite, and is not based on solid science.


Stupid facts not matching what the statists, who want power over every aspect of our lives, wish to portray are having problems like polar bears, the very image of global warming, are doing very well actually. WattsUpWithThat.com reports noted that the image of a stranded polar bear doesn't jive with National Geographic's longest recorded polar bear swim of 426 miles or recent Canadian survey which found a 66% higher than expected polar bear population. "The (polar) bear population is not in crisis as people believed. There is no doom and gloom," according to Drikus Gissing, director of wildlife management for the Nunavut region in Canada. Note that it is reported that the scientist for the Canadian Department of the Interior, whose 2004 research concerning drowning polar bears which inspired Al Gore and others has been placed on administrative leave for unspecified wrongdoing.

Speaking of Wrongdoing, don't forget that Professor Peter Gleick, who was chairman of the ethics committee at the American Geophysical Union, and a supposed ethics expert with the Pacific Institute. Was caught and subsequently admitted to stealing documents from Heartland last February. It appears that he also forged other documents to attempt to make the think-tank look bad. MSNBC reported that "In the field of climate science, when someone - especially skeptics - did something ethically questionable or misrepresented facts, scientist Peter Gleick was usually among the first and loudest to cry foul. He chaired a prominent scientific society's ethics committee. He created an award for what he considered lies about global warming." I wonder if he'll get his own award this year, since the forged data exposed in Climate Gate was out last year, the field of new exposed liars in global warming is smaller. He will have to compete with NASA but he might win.

Down in the Antarctic, new satellite survey technology has resulted in finding that there are about twice as many emperor penguins as previously thought. Again facts don't support global warming alarmists.

Glaciers are actually growing not shrinking. A Nature study using satellite imagery, showed that higher glaciers have been adding ice, specifically the Himalayan Karakorum range, has added significant mass over the past decade. This of course does not match the UN IPCC 2007 prediction that "Glaciers in the Himalayas are receding faster than in any other part of the world and if the present rate continues, the likelihood of their disappearing by the year 2035..." Yes the IPCC retracted that and said it was based on an old 1999 media interview, but then the actual science is not important to global warming alarmists, and they only retracted the finding when exposed.

What global warming alarmists don't like or want to talk about is that some glaciers are melting because of unseen volcanic activity releasing massive amounts of heat. Volcanic activity in general is not considered or counted in any of the global warming alarmist models. Spewing massive amounts of pollutants and nothing to say of the huge amount of heat, excluding volcanic activity from climate models only makes those models less reliable.

How could anybody say that this affects climate?






Even media darling and doomsday author James Lovelock who's works include hysterical titles like "Revenge of Gaia: Why the Earth Is Fighting Back - and How We Can Still Save Humanity," and "The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning - Enjoy It While You Can" has even changed his tune. Lovelock, agrees with IPCC acknowledging that although CO2 levels are still rising the result is not an automatic and direct rise in temperature. In an April 23, 2012 MSNBC interview he says, "The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time... it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising -- carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that now". "The problem is we don't know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books - mine included - because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn't happened."

Earthlier this year 49 Prominent NASA Scientists and Astronauts have publicly spanked NASA for supporting global warming alarmism without supporting scientific evidence.

The UN 62nd General assembly in July 2008 said: "...it had been estimated that there would be between 50 million and 200 million environmental migrants by 2010." Oops, they were wrong, populations in coastal areas like the Bahamas increase and environmental migrants never appeared (LINK, but the UN did try to cover up its mistake. (LINK

It's simple look for power and money. Like everything else follow the money, when an environmental study concludes we need more government control or more centralized control, or more regulations, look at who paid for the study. If the study was paid for by the government and it concludes or is used to further increased government regulation, or more power with the government, then just like a study paid for by Monsanto which says genetically modified food is better than food grown organically with from heirloom seeds you might want to consider the source.

The truth is that any "scientific" study which empowers who ever funded it should be questioned, especially if it is government funded and is used to limit individual liberty and empower government. The truth is that ".. we don't know what the climate is doing." Truth Hurts! Especially the truth that statists are using "climate change" to further erode individual rights and concentrate power in a few elite. This is the truth that must be exposed and addressed.

So Much for Scientific Consensus

If anybody in the media or government tells you that there is a consensus that man is causing global warming, and specifically that CO2 is the cause they are liars.

Dear Charlie,

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.

The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.

As former NASA employees, we feel that NASA’s advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate. We request that NASA refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases and websites on this subject. At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.

Scientific Skepticism, A Religious Experience

Last week a study in the American Sociological Review by Gordon Gauchat claims there has been, in the past four decades, a dramatic decline in churchgoers’ faith in science since around 1970. Sociology as a science is notoriously soft, lacking in rigor, and has produced such failed ideas as eugenics. Be that as it may it does offer insight.



The modern scientific method was fundamentally codified by religious men (mostly Christians) in order to better understand God’s creation. Ever hear of the phrase “doubting Thomas?” It was coined because of nature of the disciple Thomas. Skepticism is definitely a Christian trait.

Consider Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW), now renamed Climate Change. Over the past four decades, scientists have told us to prepare for an upcoming ice age and warned of catastrophic global warming. Many scientists and government types trying to use scares of dramatic climate change as a means to institute tyrannical government controls on the everyday lives of the average person. At the same time scientists like Professor Richard Linden of MIT, and thousands of others clearly say that there is no scientific evidence of man causing harmful climate change.

Mike Hulme is a high-ranking professor at the University of East Anglia who has done substantial work and is influential with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). This is of course the same University of East Anglia which is infamous for the Climate-gate emails, where “scientists” were exposed hiding and suppressing data, and colluding against any whose research didn’t support the pre-conceived conclusions that AGW is valid. These emails noted that it was more important to protect the message of AGW than expose the truth revealed by the science.

Professors Hulme explains from the concluding chapter his book, Why We Disagree about Climate Change: Understanding Controversy, Inaction and Opportunity: “The function of climate change I suggest, is not as a lower-case environmental phenomenon to be solved. Solving climate change should not be the focus of our efforts any more than we should be ‘solving’ the idea of human rights or liberal democracy. It really is not about stopping climate chaos. Instead, we need to see how we can use the idea of climate change – the matrix of ecological functions, power relationships, cultural discourses and materials flows that climate change reveals – to rethink how we take forward our political, social, economic and personal projects over the decades to come.”

People looking for honesty and abject truth are now skeptical of the “science” presented by proponents of Global Warming theory. Being caught in lies, and watching complete double standards as to who should and shouldn’t follow new draconian environmental laws have left many skeptical. This is a more common trait in people of faith in America. How dare people of faith, who believe that there is actual truth, be skeptical of scientists who openly claim that the idea of Climate Change being used as a method to achieve political, social, economic, and personal projects is more important than the science and problems to be solved.

This new attitude by scientists like Hulme of demanding the trust of the people without evidence, in the face of them hiding evidence, and in their own words saying the evidence, facts, and science isn’t as important as the political and social goals is a good reason that the religious are skeptic. Any good scientist should be a Doubting Thomas, why is that skepticism from outside the “scientific” community now seen as irrational.

Doubting Thomas is someone who will refuse to believe something without direct, physical, personal evidence; in other words, a skeptic. This phrase is coined based on based on the Biblical story of Christ’s Apostle, Thomas. Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, doubted Jesus' resurrection and demanded to feel Jesus' wounds before being convinced (John 20:24-29). Skepticism has a long tradition in Christianity, more importantly, scientific skepticism is rooted in a methodology for looking at what God crated, a methodology developed by great religious men of the past: The Scientific Method.

Roger Bacon (1214–1294), is credited with first documenting the scientific method, based on the writings of Muslim scientists, he described a repeating cycle of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and verification. But it is Galileo (1564–1642) who is considered the father of the Scientific Method in modern culture. According to an old 1970 edition of The Encyclopedia Britannica, “Even while Bacon was philosophizing, the true method was being practiced by Galileo, who, with a combination of observation, hypothesis, mathematical deduction and confirmatory experiment founded the science of dynamics.”

Scientists are now asking for unqualified faith in their findings and recommendations, not skepticism facts, and truth. That sounds more like religion than science. Gauchat’s work seems to fly in the face of famous sociologist Robert K. Merton who wrote, “Most institutions demand unqualified faith; but the institution of science makes skepticism a virtue.”

REEs make Green Tech a Fashion Statment

“Investigating Rare Earth Element Mine Development in EPA Region 8 and Potential Environmental Impacts,” is the title of the study released in August 2011. In it’s study EPA reported on several sites located in the intermountain West, from Idaho to Colorado, which could become only the second REE mining operation in the entire country. (LINK) This study reported extensively on the possible sources of contaminants and waste byproducts associated with all mining, and especially those concentrated in REE-related extraction. This study clearly explains why Green technology is not actually “Green” and why US plants producing such products as photovoltaic cells have closed (even with federal funding) and moved to other countries.

The truth is so-called “green” tech, is more hazardous to the human health and the environment than burning coal to make electricity. The EPA reports:

“…every ton of rare earth elements produced generates approximately 8.5 kilograms of fluorine and 13 kilograms of flue dust. Additionally, sulfuric acid refining techniques used to produce one ton of rare earth elements generates 9,600 to 12,000 cubic meters of gas laden with flue dust concentrate, hydrofluoric acid, sulfur dioxide, and sulfuric acid. Not only are large quantities of harmful gas produced, alarming amounts of liquid and solid waste also resulted from Chinese refining processes. They estimate at the completion of refining one ton of rare earth elements, approximately 75 cubic meters of acidic waste water and about one ton of radioactive waste residue are produced. The IAGS reports China produced over 130,000 metric tons of rare earth elements in 2008 alone (IAGS, 2010). Extrapolation of the waste generation estimates over total production yields extreme amounts of waste. With little environmental regulation, stories of environmental pollution and human sickness remain frequent in areas near Chinese rare earth element production facilities.”

The volume of hazardous waste produced for each metric ton of REE is vast. To put it in terms understandable the average car weighs about one metric ton (2204 lbs), that is the amount of radioactive waste produced for each metric ton of REEs. In addition about 20,000 gallons of acidic waste water is created (the amount that fills a large swimming pool). The reason China produces 95% of the rare earth elements is not just because they can be found in China, but because it is one of the few places where they can be mined. In the US the EPA would not allow the vast amount of pollution associated with REE mining to even be considered. These REEs are are vital for green-energy products including giant wind turbines, hybrid gasoline-electric cars and compact fluorescent bulbs.

Consider “Green” Power like wind; there are two tons of REEs used in the permanent magnets of every 3 MW wind turbine. That means that 2 tons radioactive waste and the equivalent of 130,000 swimming pools of acid water waste are generated for each turbine. Nuclear power per KWH is far less damaging to the environment, including less radioactive waste per KW of generated electricity. Explain how “green” wind power is again?

Since China owns 95% of the REE’s they set the price. REE’s prices have skyrocketed because demand is artificially higher (we demand “green” tech) and there is a single government controlled source. “The high cost of rare earths is having a significant chilling effect on wind turbine and electric motor production in spite of offsetting government subsidies for green tech products,” said Michael N. Silver, chairman and chief executive of American Elements, a chemical company based in Los Angeles that supplies rare earths and other high-tech materials.

From the EPA report;

“Permanent magnets represent the staple clean energy technology of future green economies. They constitute main components of lightweight, high powered motors and generators due to their production of a stable magnetic field without the need for an external power source. Permanent magnet motors power contemporary electric, hybrid electric, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, while permanent magnet generators produce electricity from wind turbines (USDOE, 2010). The key element derived samarium-cobalt permanent magnets dominate rare earth technology because they produce a magnetic field in a much smaller size. The samarium-cobalt permanent magnet also retains its magnetic strength at high temperatures making it ideal for clean energy and even military applications, including precision guided munitions and aircrafts (IAGS, 2010).

Permanent magnets work in conjunction with high efficiency rare earth based batteries to store energy in electric, hybrid electric, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (USDOE, 2010). Current generation hybrid electric vehicles use a battery with a cathode containing a host of rare earths including lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, praseodymium, and cobalt (Kopera, 2004). Each hybrid electric battery may contain several kilograms of rare earth materials (USDOE, 2010). Plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles require even greater storage capacity and higher power ratings than typical hybrid vehicles. In light of this, automakers will likely use the lithium ion battery, increasing demand for yet another key element. Scientists at the Argonne National Laboratory estimated one lithium ion battery contains 3.4-12.7 kilograms of lithium depending on proprietary design (USDOE, 2010).”

Hybrid cars, like Toyota’s Prius, contain around 25 pounds of rare earth elements. “Green” technology uses twice the REEs of regular vehicles. So if you do the math on the amount of REEs used by hybrid and electic cars sold in the USA have used over 5 MILLION pounds of REEs. We won’t even go into the energy used and waste generated “re-cycling” used up cars laden with REEs.

Now take the lowly lightbulb; we are being forced to purchase CFL’s not traditional incandescent lightbulbs. CFL’s are getting more and more expensive, had if you breakone you need to have a hazmat suit, evacuate your home, and treat your floor like a hazardous waste site, but at least they are “Green.” The coust of CFL’s is going up and up; why? Because of the amount of REEs involved in their production. REE costs are climbing at unprecedented rates. Here’s what GE has to say about it; “Rare earths are undergoing extreme cost increases due to unprecedented market forces. In less than 12 months, costs of some rare earth oxide materials used in lighting products have experienced increases ranging from 500 percent to more than 2,000 percent, and they continue to climb. For perspective, if the rate of inflation on the rare earth element europium oxide were applied to a $2.00 cup of coffee, the new cost would be $24.55.”

And why are REEs so expensive, and why aren’t mines opening up in other countries? Again from GE’s Rare Earth FAQ; “In addition, increasing environmental standards and growing labor wages have resulted in the development of fewer mines.” In not so politically correct terms, the EPA and US federal regulations make mining REEs in the USA cost prohibitive.

It’s going to get worse. China, acting like a sensible owner of it’s own resources, will keep more and more of it’s REE for use within China. In its latest report, "Rare Earths & Yttrium: Market outlook to 2015, 14th edition 2011," international metals and minerals research firm Roskill said much of the total output would go to Chinese manufacturers to address the demands of domestic industry, leaving only a small amount for export.

This explains why even after receiving lots of US Federal Dollars (stimulus money) BP closed its US Photovoltaic manufacturing plant and moved it to China. Having to import REEs from China puts you into a business that will not be allowed to compete. The cost of REEs exported from China will become too expensive.

This is not China’s fault, other countries including the USA have REEs that could be mined. We choose not to do so for environmental and political reasons. No company in its right mind would take the risk and costs associated with mining REEs in the USA under current federal regulations. Knowing China has vast reserves and could flood the market making it impossible to sell your REEs, and the huge costs associated with mining in a manner which meets US federal environmental standards,

Green tech and materials will not be done in the USA. Green tech requires REEs, our Government has regulated green tech out of the country. It is also regulating traditional energy out of business like coal generation of electrical power. If you didn’t know better you’d think that liberal greenies want the US to exist at third world energy and technology use.

We may want green tech like more wind mills, but they are hugely expensive, going to get more expensive, and will not be able to be created in the USA because of the scarcity of REEs. BP recently ceased production of solar cells at its Frederick, Md., plant and laid off 320 of the 430 employees. Thus ending all of BP’s solar cell manufacturing in the U.S. Green jobs promised by Obama, are being killed by Federal Regulations.

Until we solve the resource problem associated with REE’s, “Green” technology will remain cost prohibitive to the average person. Just as “Green” tech CFL’s now cost as much as much as 10 times traditional tech incandescent lightbulbs. The Chevy Volt costs more than double the same vehicle powered with traditional tech (it would be 3 times the cost if not for government subsidies), only the very wealth making a fashion statement can afford “Green” tech.
